Chonda J. Nwamu is executive vice president and general counsel of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, one of the nation’s largest electric utilities, and several competitive businesses engaged in emerging sectors of the electric industry. She is responsible for the legal affairs of the company.
Prior to joining Edison International in April 2025, Nwamu was executive vice president, general counsel and secretary at Ameren Corporation, the parent company of electric and natural gas utilities in Illinois and Missouri.
Nwamu has strong familiarity with California's legal, political and regulatory environments based on her legal experience at PG&E, her role as the former president of the Conference of California Public Utility Counsel and her current leadership in the EEI GC roundtable.
Nwamu is a member of the Executive Leadership Council and has served on multiple nonprofit boards, including the St. Louis American Heart Association (Go Red) and the Boys and Girls Club of Greater St. Louis. Nwamu also serves on the board of directors for BellRing Brands Inc. and was selected as one of Savoy magazine's 2024 Most Influential Executives in Corporate America.
Nwamu holds a bachelor’s in English from the University of Virginia and earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Pennsylvania.
